21 Century Garden Art – Charles Jencks Garden of Cosmic Speculation
Synopses
Spread out over 17 hectares on the Scottish west coast, the film introduces one of the most spectacular of present day gardens: The Garden of Cosmic Speculation - a landscape of rolling grass hills and wonderful ponds. The tasteful addition of terraces, stairways and artworks underscores the theme underpinning the garden's design: The Secrets of Human Existence. Above all, the artist's dedication to the idea of the "borrowed landscape" in his design, elevates the Garden of Cosmic Speculation to an impressive artwork in its own right. As their model, Jencks and his late wife Maggie embraced the garden philosophy of China. Accordingly, their Garden is also a miniaturized and idealized representation of the Scottish Highlands.
