Faces of Europe – Madame Conductor
Synopses
The documentary abducts the viewer into the very heart of the Spanish music industry. And there, we encounter Isabel López Calzada, the conductor who established the first all-female symphony orchestra in Europe. With her passion to constantly try out untested and untypical means to her musical ends, she typifies at once the soul of Old Castile and the future of her Spanish homeland. "I would always do what I do; I can't do any differently," says Isabel López Calzada. The conductor from Castile is fascinated by the power of music. Her birthplace is Villaviciosa de Odón, a town in central Spain, on the rim of the Castilian Plateau, not far from the capital Madrid.
