Faces of Europe – Apulia and the Master Builders in the Land of the Trulli
Synopses
The documentary follows an architectural pair, the Franchinis, into rural Apulia - into a world marked by the stark division between large estate owners and the impoverished working class. "Masseri" and "Trulli" - villas and cottages - remain the architectural symbols of the social division. The Franchinis plan to revive the characteristic vineyard cottages in new construction. The film reveals the realities and atmosphere of old Apulia. It also shows the widening split between the loss of regional structures and, the preservation of the region's traditional rural architecture; preserving rural structures mostly occurs when some city dweller chooses to withdraw to a quieter life in the countryside
