The youthful, multi-cultural Rotterdam-based West 8, enjoys its reputation as an innovative design team, one quick to try new ideas. The team has received an exceptional brief for a project in the Rotterdam harbor district: On two strips of land, "Borneo" and "Sporenburg" they have been engaged, together with 140 architects, to jointly design a new residential district- one intended to maintain traditional Dutch city culture: single family homes with nature-inspired inner courtyards, offering inhabitants intimacy within an urban setting. As a center of calm, the Sphinx Garden lies in the very middle of the district. This inaccessible show garden invites its visitor to meditation - architecture and designed environment in dialogue.
