Faces of Europe – The Melodies of the Aran Islands
Synopses
The film joins Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola at one of the most critical moments in her life: She is returning to Inis Oirr where she's been engaged to give a concert. For years the singer has not appeared before her homeland's public. She has been living abroad in Galway, western Ireland; and with time, her tours through Ireland have brought her modest fame. Central to the film are the challenges facing the singer, her rehearsals, her stage freight. In long walks along the seashore she finds the inspiration for her songs: the rhythm and melodies of the sea. The viewer becomes acquainted with the Aran Islands: the church and its mild-mannered minister, an unsuccessful fisherman, various tourists, and the world-renowned pullover sweater - a bit of everyday island life.
