21 Century Garden Art – The Eden Project of Tim Smit
Synopses
Appearing like giant, intergalactic honeycombs, Cornwall is home to the world's largest greenhouses. Near the southern English village of St. Austell, futuristic, high-tech copper roofs stretch skyward to a height of 55 meters. Beneath these plastic-foil roofs, The Eden Project houses a plant collection representing the entire range of the Earth's climatic zones. Over 100,000 species of plant life are gathered in this man-made biosphere reserve. The tour through the "Biome" takes one from the olive groves of the Mediterranean Room on through to a tropical rain forest. With the establishment of the Eden Project, its developer Tim Smit has realized his dream of paradise on Earth. He has furthermore created a garden artwork that attracts several thousand visitors every day.
